5 wounded in separate shootings overnight

A man who was found shot in the head and back this morning on Chicago's Far South Side has died from his injuries, one of five shootings across the city overnight, police said.

William Allen, 30, of the 11200 block of South Stewart Street, was pronounced dead at 3:45 a.m. at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to a spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Allen was found lying on the ground at about 3:21 a.m. in the 200 block of East 115th Street in the West Pullman neighborhood, said Police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines, and was taken in critical condition to Christ where he died.

There was no immediate information available about the circumstances of the shooting.

In other violence:

• Shortly before 2 a.m., another man was found with a gunshot wound to his leg on the 3600 block of West Lexington Street in the Homan Square neighborhood on the West Side, Gaines said. He was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital where he was treated and released.

• At about midnight, an 18-year-old man was shot in the arm in the 12000 block of South Perry Avenue on Chicago's Far South Side, Gaines said. He was taken to Christ and is now described as in "stable" condition, he said.

• Two people were shot at about 10:15 p.m. in the 5800 block of South Francisco Avenue in the the Gage Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side. Police could not provide any information about the ages or genders of the victims.

Earlier Monday evening, a man was wounded during a home invasion on the Southwest Side in Chicago's Ashburn neighborhood, police said.

At about 6 p.m., several men broke into a home in the 3500 block of West 76th Street and bound five men who were inside, police said. The intruders tied their hands and covered their mouths with duct tape, according to preliminary reports.

One of the intruders shot the 25-year-old victim in the chest, back and side, police said. He was taken in critical condition to Christ.

The suspects fled the scene in a white vehicle. Police believe the incident was gang related.

No one is in custody for any of the shootings. Wentworth Area, Calumet Area and Harrison Area detectives are investigating.
